I had taken a photo a couple years before this one where I learned that railway tracks light up during the early or late part of the day when the sun hits them. I tried to get that effect with this photograph and I was happy with the result.
This was an interesting shot as the sun must have been obscured by atmospheric haze allowing the camera to capture it as a sphere.
