Follow the Path

This is Fushimi Inari shrine in Kyoto in the evening when the lights come on. This place has been "discovered" so I would recommend going really early or pretty late if you want to have a peaceful experience here (not to mention getting some photos).

Snowfall

This was taken outside of a museum in Montreal, Canada. I saw these snow covered tables from inside and went to take some photos after I was finished looking around the museum. This was a bit of a trial because it was getting dark, so I had to use a tripod, the snow was really deep (going into my boots), and it was about -30 Celsius. My hands got pretty frozen but it was such a unique scene that I feel it was worth it.

The Eternal Buddha

There was an entire wall of these little statues in a monastery in Penang, Malaysia. I know the shot isn't technically abstract, but I thought the repeating pattern made it qualified, in a way.

Yellow

I hate the cold, so during the winter I stay inside a lot but I still want to take some photos. I used a macro lens and some extension tubes to get really close to the centre of this flower.

Balance

This was taken on a trip from Chile to Bolivia to see the Salar de Uyuni, the world's largest salt flats. I liked how these two flamingos were standing on the opposite leg of the other.

Old Ford

This is an old Ford I found while driving back from Algonquin Park, Ontario. I shot this in infrared and used the brush tool in Lightroom to remove the colour everywhere but the truck.

Polar Bear 3

Churchill, Manitoba, Canada. Even though they look cute and playful, you don't want to play with a polar bear.

Break and Enter

This looked like the tree had slowly broken through the window and left the window frame lying on the floor.

Plymouth Detail

A shot of the trunk area of an old Plymouth I found rusting away on an abandoned farm. I like the contrast of green and pink in this shot.

Himeji Heron

This is a grey heron perched on a rooftop of a house near Himeji Castle in Japan. I like this ruffled feather/raised leg shot more than the more regular position one that I have. Plus, the bird perched in a perfect spot to show off the unique roof tiles on Japanese houses.

Infrared Plymouth

I tried to get some nice shots of the last rays of sunset hitting the car but I wasn't happy with the results that day. I switched to my infrared camera and wide angle lens for an interesting composition close to the camera. With the low light it was a long exposure. I had to try a couple shots as infrared light is a different length than regular light so focus can be a bit off if you don't compensate.

Path to Enlightenment

This is a small inari shrine in Suizenji Jojuen Garden in Kumamoto. It's rated as one of the top gardens in Japan and is well worth a visit. When shot in infrared the red torii gates turn bright white.

Trouble Under the Hood

I found this old truck while exploring south western Manitoba near the U.S. border. A lightning storm was approaching and after photographing for a few more minutes I had to return to the car for safety reasons. I got stuck in a pretty rough storm, and I was nervous because a tornado had just gone through the area a couple days before.

Rooted in Angkor

This shot took me a long time to capture; there were endless amounts of Asian tourists that not only needed a photo of themselves in front of the tree making the peace sign with their hands, but they all needed to be in the shot individually. This was my favourite temple at Angkor as they have partially restored it but they have left many of the large trees that are slowly reclaiming the temple for the jungle. I believe they used this temple for parts of the movie Tomb Raider.

Moai

These are some of the famous stone figures on Easter Island called Moai. Easter Island is part of Chile and is also called Rapa Nui by the local population. These particular Moai are at an area called Rano Raraku, on the edge of a volcano which served as a quarry for the rock used in the making of the statues. There are many unfinished statues scattered around the area and walking along the pathways is an amazing experience.
