2012
Big improvement in my photos this year, in my opinion. Much more active this season. Got a 60D and still using the same lenses as last year. Much more lakeside/water shots and much more infrared work.
Took a trip out to Dauphin for a few days and finally made it up to Pisew/Kwasitchewan Falls! Also went to China for five weeks; see the Travel section for those shots.
I was really looking forward to getting a full frame camera for the season but the megapixel count on the 5D mark 3 is very disappointing (replaced the old 21mp model with a 22mp one), particularly when Nikon put out a 36mp monster for $500 less. Megapixels aren't everything but it's what I want/need right now; I picture one day printing very large prints, or at least having the option to. Before the $3k Nikon the only option was the Pentax 645D but it is (still) $10k. The 5DM3 is a good camera but is not a successor to the 5DM2, which was an affordable full frame high megapixel camera. Then, their affordable full frame camera came out with only 20mp (while Nikon's has 24mp, better autofocus, double the warranty, a flash, etc). But I'd have to sell all my gear to switch, and I don't like the grip or dial placement of the Nikons. My prediction is that Canon will put out a huge megapixel camera but it will be much too expensive, and a bit too late. Why can't they just make what I need?
