Ontario - Fall 2020
Ontario has a lot to offer, many hidden gems, proving that you don't need to travel to far away exotic places to have a good trip. I didn't get great light or foliage photos in Algonquin Park, but that's the risk when you go through somewhere pretty quickly. I made up for it with Kawartha ice cream in both Bancroft and Huntsville. Killarney Park was probably my favourite foliage destination; each place has their own look and feel and Killarney stood out. Manitoulin was nice, I really liked the Cup and Saucer hike. Unfortunately I couldn't see the flower pot rock formations off the Bruce peninsula due to high winds; maybe next time. Just west of Collingwood I got the best apples I've ever had (cortland, straight from the orchard) and did an amazing hike through a limestone crevice just south of town. The vineyards around Niagara make for an interesting day trip, as do the ones in Prince Edward County (although the wines and tastings are more expensive there). I avoided Toronto as I'd been before and wanted to stay away from big cities on this trip, but stopped in at the McMichael art gallery which was pretty good, lots of indigenous art and group of seven works (and it has Tom Thompson's cabin on the museum grounds). Add in a few local bakeries and cheese shops, some coffee roasters, and a lot of waterfalls, and overally it was a great trip.
