Bolivia
I unfortunately didn't spend very much time in Bolivia, it was a very beautiful place. But there were lots of warnings about crime and fake police officers and bad infrastructure and dodgy public transport. The main goal here was to see the Salar de Uyuni, the largest salt flat in the world, 12000 square kilometers. I basically came in to La Paz, couldn't go down to Uyuni due to a transportation strike (there were tourists that got stuck there because no one was allowed in or out), waited a day to see if the strike would end, and then ended up deciding to go to Chile to do the tour beginning from the Chilean side. Originally I was going to go straight through and end in Chile. Needless to say, on an already tight schedule, having to go around through Chile cost me precious time. And it filled up my passport with stamps (because you always get an exit and entry stamp for every crossing) to the point where I had no space left and was wondering if I'd be able to get home. Definitely the cheapest country of the three that I visited: sunglasses for $3, a large dinner of chinese food for $2 and same for a beer. Still more expensive than southeast asia though.
