Easter Island
Easter Island was awesome! The most isolated place on Earth with the nearest island being 2000km away. (But don't believe them when they tell you that you can walk to ahu Akiri in an hour and a half; It took me five! Anyway...) There is a really cool volcano crater at the southwest tip. There is a real small town type of vibe to the place; everybody knows everybody. The seafood is really fresh and the souvenirs are ridiculously expensive. Be sure to take an island tour at the beginning of your trip so you will know what places you want to focus on. I only had three full days there so I wasn't able to do any diving, not to mention the fact that I couldn't find my diving license before leaving Winnipeg. Plus, I didn't bring my driver's license so I couldn't rent a car. I saw a dance show of traditional dancing but I was wondering how they know what the dancing was like since pretty much all of the original inhabitants died long ago; due to foreign diseases, inter-tribal warfare, and most of the population being taken away to the mainland as slaves. It wasn't until the last day there that I hired a cab to take me to the most important sites at the end of the day for the best light for photos. I almost hired the same guy to go for sunrise shots the next day but it was the day of my morning flight and if anything went wrong with the car I would miss the flight so I decided not to risk it.
